One person killed after vehicle crashes into overpass on Highway 99 in Merced County, CHP confirms

MERCED COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- One person has died after crashing their vehicle on Highway 99 in Merced County.

The California Highway Patrol says that the vehicle was traveling north on Highway 99 when it drifted off the road.

The vehicle went up an embankment, then crashed into the Le Grand Road overpass.

The driver of the vehicle was wearing a seatbelt when the airbags deployed, but died at the scene.

It is unknown why the vehicle drifted off the highway.

The victim's identity has not been released.
