Domestic violence suspect arrested after standoff in EC Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A domestic violence suspect is in custody after a standoff with police early Tuesday morning.

It started before 5 am near Maple and Michigan when a woman called police, saying the 28-year-old man was assaulting her and was armed with a knife.

Authorities learned that the woman had a restraining order against him.

When initially trying to arrest the man, authorities say he tried stabbing one of the officers.

The man then barricaded himself inside a home. Officers were able to get the woman and her children out safely.

The suspect eventually came out of the home after two hours and was taken into custody.

He will be booked into jail on multiple charges, including felony assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer and misdemeanor domestic battery.
