Prescribed burns planned for Sierra National Forest through May

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The National Park Service is letting the public know about upcoming prescribed burns in the Sierra National Forest.

Officials say the operation is expected to start this February, with the work continuing through the middle of May, depending on weather conditions.

The prescribed burns are planned for the Barnes Mountain disposal area near Blue Canyon, which will be closed to the public while the operation is underway.

Residents may experience smoke in the area.

If you encounter smoke while driving, officials ask you turn on your headlights and slow down.
