CHP arrests Sanger man in connection with Highway 180 shooting

SANGER, Calif. (KFSN) -- A 23-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a freeway shooting that left another man with severe injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The suspected gunman was identified as Devin Shane Atondo, 23.

The shooting occurred on July 11, on Highway 180 east of McCall Avenue. Officers responded to reports of a shooting and found a man who had been shot in his right eye.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where he remains hospitalized, authorities said.

Investigators said the shooting stemmed from a traffic-related altercation involving Atondo, who was driving a Honda Accord at the time of the incident.

Authorities said Atondo was spotted driving the Honda in Sanger on Friday and was pulled over.

He was taken into custody and booked on several charges, including attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.
