Reedly farmer who gave out thousands of nectarines headed to court for lawsuit

REEDLEY, Calif. (KFSN) -- A Reedley farmer who went viral for giving away thousands of nectarines faces court Monday in a lawsuit against a fresh produce supplier based in Los Angeles.

The trial is scheduled to begin on July 20, with Cesar Mora's farm against Giumarra Brothers Fruit Company.

This all started when Mora was being sued for trying to sell his fruit.

He was blocked last year from selling his fruit and watched thousands of nectarines rot.

So, he decided this year to give 180,000 pounds of nectarines away to his community.

Mora then received another cease-and-desist letter demanding to stop the giveaway.

His attorneys say Giumarra Brothers engaged in unfair business practices.

Mora also says he tried to give the fruit back to the company but claims the offer was rejected.

Both companies face each other for the first time in court since the lawsuit was filed in 2023.
