FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- A Selma Unified worker has been arrested for possession of child sex abuse material.

24-year-old Troy DeCarlo of Fresno was arrested and booked into the Fresno County jail on Wednesday.

Detectives say they arrested DeCarlo at Selma Unified's Transportation Yard after following up on a CyberTip.

DeCarlo, at the time of his arrest, was working as a substitute maintenance worker /groundskeeper for the Selma Unified School District.

Deputies say he was hired this past December and had limited contact with students.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact Fresno County Sheriff's Detectives at (559) 761-3659.

Tips can also be submitted to Valley Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-7867 or online at www.valleycrimestoppers.org.

Selma Unified released the following statement following DeCarlo's arrest:

"Selma Unified was alerted by the Fresno County Sheriff's Office that a district substitute employee was arrested today on charges related to possession of child pornography. The individual was hired as a substitute maintenance and grounds worker in December 2025. At the time of hire, the district conducted the required background check. There were no prior arrests, and fingerprint clearance was received before the individual was permitted to work in our district. This individual was not a permanent or full-time employee. He served only as a substitute maintenance and grounds worker and was used on an as-needed basis. When assigned to a work site, he was always paired with another maintenance worker. In addition, our maintenance staff do not enter classrooms during the school day to avoid disrupting instruction.

The individual has been permanently removed from our substitute list and will not be eligible for any future employment with Selma Unified.

Because this is an active criminal investigation being handled by the Fresno County Sheriff's Office, please direct any further questions regarding the investigation to the Sheriff's Office."
