Athletics right-hander Luis Severino went on the injured list Saturday, one day after what was described at the time as a sore right arm caused him to leave a game after one inning.
Severino exited after the first inning of the Athletics' 8-2 loss to the New York Yankees on Friday. The 32-year-old Severino fell to 0-2 in four career starts against the Yankees and has allowed 19 runs (15 earned) in 13 innings in four starts against New York.
In its release, the team described the injury as a "right shoulder strain."
Severino got off to a rough start in the game, allowing four unearned runs in the first inning. After Ben Rice reached on an error by first baseman Nick Kurtz, Severino allowed an RBI single to Aaron Judge and then a three-run homer to Paul Goldschmidt to fall into a big hole against his former team.
The Athletics filled Severino's spot on the roster by recalling right-hander Michael Kelly from Triple-A Las Vegas.
