Suspect wanted for attempted murder of a police officer, police investigating

FRESNO, Calif. -- The Fresno Police department is searching for the suspect who opened fire and shot an officer in Southwest Fresno on Saturday night.

56-year-old Paul Rodriguez Cisneros is the suspect in a domestic violence investigation and wanted for domestic violence charges including assault with a deadly weapon, with a vehicle, and criminal threats.

Officers responded at about 6:30 p.m. to a neighborhood near East Garrett Avenue and South Clara Avenue regarding a domestic disturbance.

Officers determined Cisneros as the suspect and confirmed he was in possession of an unknown caliber handgun.

Later at night, at about 9:30 p.m. officers attempted to make contact with Cisneros and arrest him for the domestic violence charges.

According to Fresno Police Chief Mindy Casto, Cisneros fired his weapon as two officers got out of their patrol car.

She confirmed that a 26-year-old Fresno police officer was shot multiple times in the arm and taken to the hospital.

The second officer was okay.

" He is doing remarkably well, and he has a warrior's spirit 100 percent after what he went through." said Fresno Police Chief Mindy Casto.

Police say officers used a BearCat vehicle to rescue the woman and an 8-year-old girl from the home.

Investigators say Cisneros fled the scene and is currently at-large and is considered to be armed and dangerous.

In addition to the domestic violence related charges, Cisneros is also wanted for attempt murder on a police officer, two charges of assault with a deadly weapon, two charges of resisting an executive officer, and a prior convicted person in possession of a firearm.

Information leading to an arrest may be eligible for $10,000 reward through Crime Stoppers.

Detectives ask anyone that knows where Cisneros might be to call 9-1-1.
