Fresno hosts Celebrate America Event with free admission

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Thousands of people are expected to gather Sunday evening at the Fresno Fairgrounds for the city's "Celebrate America Event," which offers free admission and parking.

Gates are scheduled to open at 7 p.m., with attendees already beginning to line up as parking becomes available. Organizers say they are preparing for the largest turnout in the event's five-year history.

Crews spent the day putting the final touches on the setup at the fairgrounds ahead of the celebration. The event is a partnership between the City of Fresno and Cornerstone Church, with officials anticipating more than 5,000 attendees.

Organizers say the event is meant to honor America's 250th birthday ahead of Independence Day next week. Several speakers, including local and state leaders, are expected to address the crowd.

The celebration will conclude with a fireworks show beginning at 8 p.m. Organizers say safety remains a priority as families gather for the event.

Officials say there is still time for people to attend, noting both entry and parking are free.
