Madera County fire prompts evacuation warning

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The Madera County Sheriff's Office has issued an evacuation warning for some residents due to a fire raging in the area.

The warning is for the following areas:

  • All homes and properties within a 1-mile radius of Road 600/ Road 612
  • All residents on Monarch Canyon Rd and Ellerbrock Station Rd

  • The sheriff's office says there is a potential threat to life and property.

The blaze is being called the Buck Fire.

The flames have already spread to 59 acres, according to CAL FIRE.

The California has shut down Road 600 and Road 612.

A PG&E camera is showing thick, grey smoke billowing from the area.

An evacuation warning is not an order to leave, but is an advisory for residents to monitor the situation and be prepared to act quickly.

The sheriff's office says if residents feel threatened, they should not wait for an order and leave immediately, especially those who need more time to evacuate, and those with pets and livestock.

Residents who need help with evacuation are asked to call (559) 675-7770 or call 911 in case of an emergency.
