TULARE, Calif. (KFSN) -- Fourth of July celebrations are underway across the nation and in local communities.
Thousands of people fill the Tulare Fairgrounds to watch the annual Independence Day fireworks show.
It's described as spectacular by many who attend, and those who work behind the scenes to make it happen.
"Phenomenal fireworks, where we increased the aerials so it's going to be a bigger show and the food, the hot dogs, the nachos, the churros, the snow cones, and raffle prizes they are giving away," expresses Stephanie Jones with Tulare Kiwanis.
The $40,000 show is organized by the Tulare Kiwanis Club.
It's made possible by donations from community members.
The magic behind the sparkly-explosives is handled by highly skilled pyrotechnicians..
"In here we have four inch shells, a bigger one to make a bang, so these are your professional grade, these are not consumer grade, these ones you need a special license for which I am certified by the ATF and the fire marshall," explains Matthew Makaroff with Pyro-Spectacular, who is among the technicians putting together Tulare's show.
He will stand at least a hundred feet away, orchestrating the event with a remote control.
"It will send power, it will do a short circuit, it will detonate and it will shoot the shell into the sky," details Matthew.
Show tickets are $5 each and children 5 and under get in for free.
The Kiwanis Club says the proceeds go right back into the community. Last year, over $24,000 in scholarships were awarded to local students.
Friday's show expected to be nothing short of stunning, helping celebrate America's 250th Birthday.
"Right here, we have close to 600 shells, as well as 50 kegs, and a three-piece set piece that is an American Flag that will look good in the finale," showcases Matthew.
Fireworks will begin once the sun has set, which will likely be closer to 9 p.m.
People should plan to arrive early to secure seating and enjoy the food, games and fun before the show.
