Fresno State shutout by USC 39-0 to start 2026 season

LOS ANGELES (KFSN) -- Fresno State's first official game as a Pac-12 member is one to forget, as the USC Trojans shut out the Bulldogs 39-0.

The No. 14 team in the nation held the Bulldogs to 49 yards through three quarters (116 total), forced an interception, a fumble and two safeties.

Former Buchanan grad Jayden Mandal completed 7/15 of his throws for 77 yards, with over half of that total yardage coming in the final drive of the game.

Fresno State's rushing attack also struggled, only gaining 39 yards on 29 attempts.

Heisman hopeful Jayden Maiava threw for 349 yards, three touchdowns and had two incompletions.

The last time Fresno State beat USC was in 1992.

Up next, Fresno State will host this season's home opener against Sacramento State on Sept. 12. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
