Mavericks surf competition to take place this Friday
HALF MOON BAY, Calif. -- The Titans of Mavericks surf competition will take place off the coast of Half Moon Bay this Friday.
The window for the world famous Mavericks surfing contest opens up Nov. 1 and goes through March 31, 2016. When the call goes out, 24 of the best conditioned big wave surfing professionals will take on the mountains of water that can reach up to 60 feet high.

One of the world's best surfers was swallowed up by a massive wave at Mavericks near Half Moon Bay last month. Garrett McNamara talked exclusively with ABC News about the gnarly wipeout on the 50 foot El Nino fueled wave. He hit the water three times, breaking his arm, before being engulfed by the giant wave.
