Some evacuation orders due to Windy Fire to be reduced to warnings

TULARE COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- There was encouraging news Tuesday out of Tulare County as some residents forced to evacuate as the Windy Fire threatened their homes will be able to head home.

Sheriff Mike Boudreaux will downgrade many evacuation orders to warnings Wednesday at noon.

Those areas reduced to warnings include Alpine Village, Camp Nelson, Cedar Slope, Coy Flat, Pierpoint, Ponderosa, Quaking Aspen and Sequoia Crest.

The Highway 190 corridor will open at noon so residents living in those areas now under warnings will be allowed to return.

You will need proof of residence and an ID to show officers before you're allowed through.

Officials say nearby Mountain Aire and Rogers Camp will remain closed under evacuation orders at this time and all other evacuation orders are still in effect.

The Windy fire is now 31 percent contained and has charred more than 88,000 acres.
