FRESNO, Calif. -- Hundreds of local students put their skills to the test in Saturday's Tournament of Technology.

Students from all of Fresno Unified's middle schools competed in a series of events using programming, 3-D printing, engineering, and robotics. Favorite categories included the 3D printed race car, and the bridge breaking competitions.

The eighth annual event encourages kids to use critical thinking and creativity while working in teams.

"It gives kids a chance to use brains to build cars and robots and compete and use skills they'd normally use in video games, but within the realm of science and technology," said Kevin Keo, Fresno Unified IT.

More than five hundred students competed in Saturday's tournament.
