New statewide poll reveals Clinton strength
FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- In addition to Hillary Clinton supporters, Bill Clinton's appearance in Fresno also drew loyal supporters of Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump.
An exclusive Action News poll conducted by SurveyUSA showed Hillary Clinton had strong support around California.
Former President Clinton fired up Hillary's Democratic supporters inside while outside we saw a couple of fiery exchanges. A long line of Hillary Clinton supporters stood for hours before they were let into the Satellite Student Union on the Fresno State campus. Many were turned away after over 800 people packed inside the venue.
Clinton supporter Kathleen McKinley said, "These are a lot of folks out here just very, very excited and honored to get to hear the president speak."
The poll showed Clinton was at 57 percent -- a 18 point lead over Sanders' 39 percent among California voters. But Sanders polls well with young voters like Suzanne Duclair. She explained, "He's supported all types of people from ethnicity, sexuality, income level and I just think he's our best option."
But that didn't mean everyone got along. Outside the venue we saw clashes among small groups of Clinton, Sanders and Donald Trump.
SurveyUSA also polled voters about a hypothetical November match-up between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. Clinton held a strong 52 percent lead over Trump's 38 percent -- a 14 point margin. Ten percent remained undecided.
Clinton supporter Gina Henry said, "I think that people in California we appreciate equality for all people. We are used to living with everyone."
But Trump supporter Diondre Pelaya countered, "Trump is not racist. A lot of people think that he's racist because of his strong immigration policies."
Some people are still undecided but Clinton endorsers like UFW co-founder Dolores Huerta were standing firm.
Huerta said, "When we think of all her accomplishments they are so great that's the kind of person we need in the White House."
Bill Clinton's speech energized his wife's supporters in the valley.
Hillary Clinton delegate Tony Capozzi said, "When he said we don't want to build walls, we want to build bridges. I think that is so true."
The crowd at Fresno State offered a pretty good snapshot of where voters stand with just two weeks to go before the state primary.
