John Legend tabbed for Game 1 national anthem

NEW YORK -- Grammy-winning singer John Legend will perform the national anthem for Game 1 of the NBA Finals between the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavalierson Thursday.

The NBA says Legend will kick off the Finals (9 p.m. ET, ABC) from the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California.

The 37-year-old singer-songwriter is also an accomplished film and TV producer, philanthropist and activist. He won an Oscar and a Golden Globe in 2015 for his song "Glory," which he wrote and performed with Common for the film "Selma."

He performed "America the Beautiful" before Super Bowl XLIX in 2015.
