Unique Valley residences opening their doors to the world on Airbnb

PRATHER, Calif. (KFSN) -- A stay at Basilwood Farm in Prather is no ordinary night for guests.

Basilwood Farm Owner Jill Spruance, "Well we have goats. Most hotels don't have goats."

Spruance's farm sells not-so-ordinary bath products like handcrafted goat milk soap. Now they have transformed the company headquarters into an oasis for others.

"So the next logical thing was an Airbnb. People kept asking if we were going to do one and we just finally decided to do it. We opened it up the end of June and we've had about 15 guests."

Spruance is one of a number of Central California residents opening their homes to complete strangers. On Airbnb, you can find some unique places to rent-- from a Downtown Fresno loft to a historic tank house in the Tower District.

Basilwood has a sales pitch that's hard to match-- a day and night on a farm that doubles as a business.

"So they can come out here and have their breakfast. We have farm dogs that will come visit them. We have the goats they can visit and see. They can visit the soap room," said Spruance.

The family rents out a cottage on the back of their home complete with a bedroom, sitting room, and bathroom. Spruance offers guests a chance to relax and unwind with the bath products made at the farm.

So far through Airbnb, she has had a variety of guests.

"Some local, but mostly from Europe. Travelers wanting to see the parks, Yosemite, Sequoia, Kings Canyon and it's a drive but we're centrally located."

The best part Spruance said is getting to meet people from around the world, without even leaving her yard.

Prices for these rooms are usually set by Airbnb or the owners. They can start at $80 and range into the hundreds per night.
