The couple got engaged in January but James told People magazine that the distance between them was too much.
"I'm so sad because I really love her," he told the magazine.
Von D, a tattoo artist and "LA Ink" reality star, wrote about the breakup on her Twitter page Monday night.
"I am no longer w Jesse, and out of respect for him, his family and myself, thats all the info I'd like to share. Thanks for respecting that," she tweeted.
