California pear season begins

FRESNO, Calif.

Farmers expect to produce about 4.5 million boxes of the fruit this year. That's mainly thanks to good weather during the growing season.

However, growers are now dealing with hot weather during the harvest, which could slow things down. Farmers are also expressing concerns about being able to hire enough people to pick all the fruit when it ripens.
