Driver killed in train crash, in Merced

Fresno, Calif. (KFSN) -- A train sheared a car into two pieces, after the driver attempted to drive around the crossing arms.

Witnesses say the Civic was on Santa Fe when the driver turned to go onto Shaffer, when the arms came down.

The driver attempted to beat the train but was hit on the tracks. Officers say the 29-year-old from Winton was wearing his seat belt -- but was still ejected from the car and died.
