Fresno firefighters battle multiple grass fires in span of few hours
Firefighters doused four grass fires within a few hours in southwest Fresno Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning.
FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Firefighters doused four grass fires within a few hours in southwest Fresno Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning.
The latest fire started after midnight on Wednesday at Jensen and Clara Avenues.
Crews say about half an acre of an empty field burned. Firefighters had to leave one of the three previous blazes to respond to the flames threatening a home.
No one was injured, and the house was not damaged.
Three other grass fires driven by strong winds kept fire crews busy throughout Tuesday night.
One of the blazes that broke out in southwest Fresno near MLK and Church had many homeowners worried as the flames moved closer to their neighborhood.
Fire crews worked to put out the grass fire with many people hosing down their own yards.
The flames were knocked down before they could cross the road toward the homes. An arson investigator was called to the scene.
Officials say a second grass fire started a short time later nearby on Elm and Annadale.
The third grass fire broke out on Golden State Boulevard. All of the blazes were contained, and no one was injured.
Firefighters tell Action News they have responded to 30 grass fires since last Thursday.
They believe many of the fires have been sparked unintentionally by cars and trucks.
