Minneapolis live updates: DOJ launches investigation into Pretti killing, Deputy AG Blanche says

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said in a series of X posts that he met with Border Czar Tom Homan on Tuesday, and called the conversation "productive."

Frey called on Homan to end Operation Metro Surge and said he made it clear to Homan that "Minneapolis does not and will not enforce federal immigration laws."

"I shared with Mr. Homan the serious negative impacts this operation has had on Minneapolis and surrounding communities, as well as the strain it has placed on our local police officers," he said.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem met with President Donald Trump in the Oval Office on Monday, two sources told ABC News, as the administration faces fallout over federal agent operations in Minnesota and Pretti's shooting.

Noem's top adviser, Corey Lewandowski, White House chief of staff Susie Wiles, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt and White House communications director Steven Cheung were also present, according to sources.

White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller was not at the meeting, sources said.

DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin pushed back against Minnesota's Chief Judge Patrick Schiltz after he ordered Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons to appear in person on Friday,

McLaughlin said in a statement that Schiltz, who was appointed by President George W. Bush in 2006, an "activist judge who is clearly more concerned about politics than the safety of the Minnesotans."

"We will not let anything slow us down from removing criminal illegal aliens from our streets," she said.

A public hearing before the House Homeland Security Committee with top officials from three Homeland Security agencies has been scheduled for Feb. 10, according to GOP Chairman Andrew Garbarino.

The witnesses include Immigration and Customs Enforcement acting director Todd Lyons; Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Rodney Scott; and Joseph Edlow, director of Citizenship and Immigration Services, according to Garbarino.

The hearing "will provide an opportunity to conduct oversight of each agency and ensure they are fulfilling their duty to protect the homeland," an advisory stated.

"Transparency and communication are needed to turn the temperature down," Garbarino said in a statement.

The announcement comes after Garbarino formally requested that the officials testify following the deadly shooting involving federal agents in Minneapolis over the weekend.
