BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KFSN) -- Vice President Joe Biden spoke at a rally on Tuesday afternoon for congressional candidate Amanda Renteria at California State University Bakersfield.
The rally lasted nearly two hours. More than two-thousand people came out to show support for Amanda Renteria -- but also to see Vice President Joe Biden.
People started lining up this morning to get into the rally. Meanwhile the Vice President started the day in California in Los Angeles talking about raising minimum wage. In Bakersfield he rallied for both Renteria and Alex Padilla who is running for California Secretary of State.
Biden spoke for nearly a half hour, touching on everything from the economy to wage differences between men and women. "It's long past time to make sure my granddaughters have every opportunity my grandson does."
Immigration was a top item for everyone, "It's not about any single group of people, it's about how we rebuild the United States of America, it's about how we grow it, it's about how we build it, ladies and gentlemen the history of this country is built on the back of people who do hard work," said Biden, "What will the Latinos do for America? They're about to rebuild America."
Biden stayed long after the rally ended, mingling with the crowd and taking several selfies. His star power proving this is an important endorsement for Renteria.
When Renteria spoke, she also highlighted the need for immigration reform.
"I had the honor to be the first Latino Chief of Staff in congress," said Renteria.
Renteria is promising to work to solve the water, jobs, and education crisis in the Valley.
