FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A man was killed and another wounded early Sunday after gunfire erupted at the Colonia Del Sol apartments near Barstow and Blackstone avenues, according to Fresno Police.
Lt. Marcus Gray II said officers arrived to find a male shooting victim in the complex parking lot.
The victim was later identified as 32-year-old Shannon Ivory, who police say suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body.
He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died.
During the investigation, detectives found a second victim, a 22-year-old man, who had been shot in the stomach.
"There's indication that there possibly was a shot fired inside the apartment. We know conclusively, however, that they both were shot in the carport area," said police spokesperson Brian Vallez.
Fresno Police said neither victim lived at the complex. Investigators believe both were there with a woman who was picking up belongings.
"During some of that time at that apartment, a disturbance occurred, at which point they were shot," Vallez said.
Detectives said the victims got into a fight with a resident and someone associated with that resident opened fire.
The shooter left the scene in a car heading east on Barstow Avenue.
This is the fifth homicide reported in Fresno so far this year, compared to two at this time last year.
Police said they are working to curb violence and reassure neighborhoods affected by recent shootings.
"We're very reactive. We put proactive units in the area when something like this does occur to try and calm that fear," Vallez said. "What we do on our end is make sure we're investigating as thoroughly as we can, working with our partners, including the DA's office, to bring these cases to prosecution."
Anyone with information or video evidence is asked to contact the Fresno Police Department.
