FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A fresh start for a pair of former Bulldogs could be just what the doctor ordered for their careers.

Former gridiron Bulldog Jake Haener has signed with the New York Giants in hopes of competing for a backup role with the franchise.

The former 4th-round pick once served as Derek Carr's backup in New Orleans before appearing in just eight games for the Saints in 2024.

Losing the starting role in 2025, Haener was ultimately released.

He is now slated to battle for the 3rd quarterback spot behind starter Jaxson Dart and primary backup Jameis Winston.

Meanwhile, a Madera High graduate made his first Major League start with the Boston Red Sox.

Former Fresno City College and Fresno State Diamond Dog Alec Gamboa served as the Red Sox's opener Monday night against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Gamboa threw for 1.1 innings with one strikeout.

In his first big league season, the lefty has pitched 10 games for the Red Sox, holding a 1.47 earned run average.
