CHP officer airlifted after crash with semi-truck in Merced County, authorities say

MERCED COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- A California Highway Patrol officer has been airlifted to a hospital following a crash involving a semi-truck in Merced County.

CHP says the crash happened just after 7:20 a.m. off Highway 59, just north of Turlock Road.

Firefighters worked to extract the officer who was trapped in their vehicle.

The officer was airlifted to a nearby hospital. Their condition is unknown.

It is unclear how the crash occurred.

Northbound Highway 59 is closed off at Turlock Road. CHP asks those driving in the area to find an alternative route as authorities work to clear the scene.
