Corrine Fire near North Fork jumps to 1,000 acres

MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- Cal Fire officials say evacuation orders are in place for residents south of Corrine Road to Kerchkoff Lake due to a wildfire burning in Madera County. They say an evacuation advisory is in place for the community of Cascadel.

The Corrine Fire sparked around 8:30 p.m. Thursday and has already burned 1,000 acres. Friday morning, officials said the fire was 20 percent contained, but that has now dropped to 5 percent. Three outbuildings have burned, but no homes have been damaged.

Road 222 is closed from Road 200 to Kerckhoff, and Road 225 is closed between Road 235 and Road 233.

Cal Fire says strong winds are blowing the fire down into the San Joaquin River canyon where conditions are brutally dry.

"For early June we're experiencing extremely dry conditions because of the drought obviously, we're having an active burning during night time operations, which in years past we've been able to catch fires like this," said Jeff McCarroll, Cal Fire Incident Commander.
