FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Sizzling soul food is music to the ears of customers at Rhapsody's Restaurant on Shaw and Marks in northwest Fresno.
"I want them to know this is a soul, southern and comfort cuisine restaurant that they would love to try," says co-owner Bukola Okin.
We love the Thursday special prepared by Miss Kim and Bukola Okin's husband, Oscar.
"If anybody wants jerk chicken over Jamaican rice, come to Rhapsody's," Bukola said.
Jerk chicken is a Jamaican dish with spices offering a hint of clove, even cinnamon.
"Most people don't like spicy, so for the jerk chicken, we don't make it spicy," Bukola said.
All your soul food favorites, like smothered pork chops, are served here.
We also had the macaroni and cheese, which Bukola put a lot of love in.
The fried chicken is cooked to a light crisp.
"We have to brine the chicken and after brining it, we wash it with the brine because we don't want it too salty," Bukola said.
Sides include everything from baked beans to collard greens.
They also have fried shrimp.
"It's a special breading -- it's totally different," Bukola said.
On Wednesdays and Sundays, the special is oxtail.
"I've tried the oxtails over rice, and that is so delicious," says customer Jazmin Martin. "It's so juicy."
Cornbread is a staple.
Don't forget dessert.
Peach cobbler is just one of several sweet options.
"Don't get me started on this cobber because we have the best cobbler," Bukola said.
