Driver dies after crashing into Fresno County canal, CHP says

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- A driver has died after crashing into a Fresno County canal.

The California Highway Patrol says the crash happened on Chestnut and North avenues around 9:15 p.m. Friday.

Officers say CPR was performed on the 36-year-old man after being pulled out of the canal.

The man was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation and it's unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were a factor.
