Farmersville dachshund wins crowned 'Fastest Wiener in the West' at national championship race

LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. (KFSN) -- A 1 1/2-year-old dachshund from Farmersville is now the pride of Tulare County after winning the Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals Championship at the Los Alamitos Race Course.

Bonnie claimed the title in the annual dachshund racing competition, outrunning the field in the championship race.

"The run for glory! Racing! Bonnie and Abby! Bonnie, going to the lead Paisley, finishing with a flourish. Bonnie holds on!" the race announcer said during the event.

Bonnie, wearing a purple race vest, crossed the finish line so quickly that she nearly lost the vest as she completed the race.

Bonnie and her family traveled nearly four hours to participate in the competition. The trip paid off as Bonnie dominated the championship race and earned a $1,000 cash prize, the title of "Fastest Wiener in the West," a golden championship jacket and a red-and-yellow doghouse shaped like a Wienerschnitzel restaurant.

Bonnie completed the approximately 50-yard championship race in 6.5 seconds, securing the championship and bringing home top honors for her family and hometown.
