Fresno City Council awards Central California Food Bank $250K amid government shutdown

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Fresno's City Council voted unanimously today to allocate $250,000 to the Central California Food Bank.

The funding aims to assist families facing food insecurity in wake of the government shutdown.

The partnership with the Central California Food Bank will bolster local efforts to ensure continuous access to nutritious food across Fresno neighborhoods most affected by the SNAP benefit disruption.

The funding will provide 1 million meals to families in need.

Since November 1 and the expiration of SNAP benefits, the food bank says website traffic has gone up 300 percent.
