Fresno Unified says it uses strict protocols to protect immigrant students

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Fresno Unified says providing social and emotional support for students is a top priority.

For some families, immigration concerns may be driving more stress this school year, especially after reports of students being detained across the U.S.

Superintendent Misty Her tells Action News, the district stands with its students.

"We're an educational system, we're not immigration and so, we are going to educate students regardless of their citizen status or their immigration status. We take them however they come to us and we are going to love them," Her said.

The district says it has strict protocols in place for confidential information related to students.

Superintendent Her encourages families to reach out to their child's teacher, principal or the district office if they have concerns.
