Lupita Ontiveros to be honored with memorial in Lodi

MERCED, Calif. (KFSN) -- Lupita Ontiveros, the woman found dead in a Merced County canal, will be laid to rest this weekend.

On Jan. 28, the dune buggy Ontiveros was riding in crashed into the Delta-Mendota Canal, south of Gustine near Highway 33.

The 21-year-old's body was found last week, seven miles from where she disappeared.

The driver of the dune buggy, Elixandro Miranda, and two other passengers made it to safety.

Miranda was later arrested for leaving the scene, but charges have not been filed.

Ontiveros will be buried on Saturday in Lodi, and a memorial service will be held in her honor.
