Man arrested in connection to Fresno Tower District shooting, police say
Fresno Police say the suspect rammed into a detective's vehicle before being arrested.
FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A man has been arrested in connection with a weekend Tower District shooting that left another man injured.
Fresno Police arrested 43-year-old Troy Franklin as the shooting suspect on Thursday morning.
Investigators say shots rang out during a fight between Franklin and a group of people celebrating the victim's birthday.
The group was leaving the area of Olive and Lucerene avenues when Franklin allegedly opened fire, grazing the victim's ankle. Officers say a person in the victim's group then fired shots toward Franklin in self-defense.
Detectives, with the help of the city's Flock automated license plate readers, later identified Franklin as the suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest.
Around 10 a.m. Thursday, Franklin was spotted leaving a business and getting into a vehicle near First and Nees avenues. As detectives moved in to make an arrest, Franklin allegedly rammed an undercover detective's vehicle before driving away.
A Fresno Police helicopter followed Franklin to the area of Barstow and Millbrook avenues, where Franklin hit a parked car. He was arrested shortly after.
Franklin has been booked into the Fresno County Jail for charges related to Sunday's shooting, as well as assault on a police officer.
The man injured in Sunday's shooting is expected to be okay.
