FRESNO, Calif. -- In May 2023, the United States declared loneliness and social isolation a national epidemic. A third of adults in the country report feeling lonely, and about a quarter say they do not have social and emotional support.

It impacts every age group in a variety of ways and it can lead to both mental and physical health problems. This is why ABC News and ABC owned stations took a deep dive into the loneliness epidemic that's impacting millions of Americans.
