'Rock Fire' burning in Inyo County forces partial closure of Inyo National Forest

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The Rock Fire, which has already burned over 10,000 acres in Inyo County, has forced a partial closure of the Inyo National Forest.

The U.S. Forest Service announced the closure Wednesday to "provide for public safety."

The closure affects roads and areas around the Rock Fire, including recreational sites such as Sawmill Pass, Red Lake, Taboose Pass and Birch Lake trails.

The Rock Fire, which started Monday night, has burned 11,645 acres and firefighters have contained 18% of the blaze.

Officials say the partial closure of the Inyo National Forest will be in effect until the end of the year.
