DINUBA, Calif. (KFSN) -- A disturbing discovery inside a Dinuba McDonald's, as three rats were caught on camera in the restaurant located inside the Walmart Supercenter.
An Action News Insider shared the video from the fast-food chain in El Monte and Alta showing the rodents crawling across the restaurant, worrying Walmart customers.
"The produce and their other snack thingy are right there. If they're there, then they got to be everywhere else," Walmart customer, Carol Mitchell said.
Tulare County's Environmental Health Division says it received reports of rats on Saturday, and the McDonald's closed immediately.
The Walmart deli, located near the restaurant, is also closed for deep cleaning.
"I just imagine it touching the food, and that's gross," Mitchell stated.
"I'm not afraid of rats. It's just not clean, they have diseases," Walmart customer, Gayle Dittenbirg, added.
The county's Environmental Health Division says the McDonald's is working with the division and a pest control company to develop a remediation plan to determine when it is safe to reopen.
Trucks from the cleaning company Ecolab were seen at Walmart on Monday afternoon.
"Cleanliness is next to godliness, and I'd hope that they would have done something before a customer saw it," Dittenbirg said.
Many customers left feeling uneasy.
"I don't think I'd be comfortable buying food here," Mitchell said.
Walmart released a statement on Monday, saying, "The health and safety of our customers is always a top priority. We are aware of the concern raised and take matters like this very seriously. Upon being notified, the restaurant was immediately closed, and facility and service partners were engaged on-site to assess the situation and implement appropriate corrective measures.
We will continue to monitor the situation closely and work with our tenant partner to determine if it is safe to re-open and ensure a clean and safe environment for our customers and associates."
