SELMA, Calif. (KFSN) -- The Selma Unified School District is looking to bring in 30 new faces to teach the next generation.
"We are hiring teachers across all grade levels, K-12, for the 26-27 school year," Director of Communications Jenna Perkovich said.
Perkovich says the district offered an early retirement incentive for veteran teachers, and they saw a large number take advantage.
With more than 50 teachers retiring, they now need to hire.
"We're really looking to connect directly with candidates across the Central Valley, and that could be entry-level teachers. It could be teachers looking to move to another district," Perkovich said.
Perkovich says the district is hosting a Teacher Job Fair on Wednesday evening from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm at the Hampton Inn Hotel in Selma.
She says the district offers competitive salaries and benefits, plus there's a track record of teachers having long careers.
"What we find here in our district is that most teachers who come to Selma Unified stay in Selma Unified," Perkovich said.
Perkovich says there's an opportunity for people to grow in the district.
That includes teaching across different grade levels or sites, as well as positions within the district office.
She says anyone who is interested in exploring a new position should attend.
"We are just really looking for candidates who are passionate about education who really want to make an impact in the classroom," Perkovich said.
Candidates are encouraged, but not required, to apply on EDJOIN before the job fair.
District principals will be available for "meet-and-greet" style interviews at the event, and formal interviews will take place the following two weeks.
