Suspect arrested in connection to a 2022 double murder near Atwater

MERCED COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- Authorities have announced the arrest of a suspect connected to a 2022 double murder.

After a multi-year investigation and the release of digital sketches in October, detectives were able to track down 30-year-old Justin Vanrassan in Las Vegas and take him into custody.

Back in July of 2022, 23-year-old Ruben Coronado and 24-year-old Eli Correa were killed just outside Atwater when they were shot inside their car by someone in a passing vehicle.

A woman was also seriously injured in the shooting.

The Merced County Sheriff's Office is hopeful that Tuesday's arrest brings closure to the victim's family.
