Suspect in shooting involving Tulare County Sheriff's Deputies identified

TULARE COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- The Tulare County Sheriff's Office has identified the man who was killed after opening fire on deputies last week.

Deputies say 32-year-old Rigoberto Lopez was wanted for a July 7 attempted murder in Ivanhoe.

Lopez was suspected of shooting a victim in the face and fleeing the scene. The victim survived.

On July 17, detectives followed a lead that Lopez was hiding at an apartment complex.

Deputies entered a unit and found him inside a concealed space behind a linen cabinet.

Lopez began shooting, forcing authorities to return fire.

Lopez died at the scene.
