Tulare County and local agencies gear up for rainy season

TULARE COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- As wet-weather rolls into Central California, Tulare County agencies are focused on preparing roads to reduce flood risk.

"It is a year-round thing for which we do go out and take a look at our drain inlets, covered pipes, and whatever else to be sure they are clear. And then at times, we also look at the pumps and make sure they're, they're working, and be sure that we have the personnel and our equipment is," says Johnny Wong with the Tulare County Resource Management Agency.

Dozens across the county are on call and ready to go during the rainy season personnel are prepared with flood and road closure signs.

Tulare County Resource Management Agency encourages people to drive with caution..

"In each town, there are some roads that are more prone to flooding than others, especially on the west side of Tulare County," continues Wong, "The most important thing is that when you do see those roads being closed with those signs."

SoCal Edison is also fully staffed on rainy weekends as they gear up, in case winds and rain cause potential weather-related power outages.

"We understand having reliable electricity is important, and whenever there are weather conditions or hazards that could impact that, we stay positioned and ready to respond to those issues," explains Gabriela Ornelas, a SoCal Edison spokesperson.

SoCal Edison says, people are encouraged to have their emergency preparedness kits ready to go, because emergencies and outages could happen at any time.

"We recommend flashlights, backup batteries that they can use. Non-perishable foods and bottled water, and enough supplies for yourself and other members of your family in your household," mentions Ornelas.

Agencies also urge drivers to get their vehicles and homes winter-ready, and if you see a downed power line, call 911.
