Visalia teacher arrested for sexual relationship with minor

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A middle school music teacher is behind bars Saturday after a five-month sexual relationship with a female student, Visalia Police said.

Officers arrested Derek Nishimoto after receiving a tip about the relationship. A detective interviewed the girl and learned she and the 48-year-old had been having sex since April.

Police said the two met while the teacher was a volunteer band instructor at Mt. Whitney High School. This is the third Tulare County teacher arrested on suspicion of having an inappropriate relationship with a student this week.
