UC Santa Cruz students and faculty are being advised to avoid the campus due to protests.

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. -- A protest over rising tuition and campus police tactics is blocking entrances and exits to UC Santa Cruz this morning. Students and faculty are being advised to not come to the campus.

Students protests are also happening at other UC campuses as part of '96 Hours of Action.' For four days protesters will be rallying from everything from tuition hikes, to budgets and policing.

On Tuesday a group of demonstrators linked together on Highway 1 snarling traffic for hours. Several students were arrested and they were given a 14 day suspension.

There were two demonstrations at UC Berkeley yesterday. Oakland high school students joined that rally demanding an end to privatization.

Police are out in large numbers at UC Santa Cruz, but so far things are peaceful.
