Marshalls looks to hire 80 in Porterville

PORTERVILLE, California

All week /*Marshalls*/ is interviewing hundreds of people to fill 80 open spots at their new location in /*Porterville*/.

The new store is one of several that's providing plenty of job opportunities for people in the South Valley.

More than 200 people a day are stopping by Porterville's Employment Connection to fill out an application and wait in line for a job interview at the new Marshall's store opening on Henderson Avenue.

The week-long hiring event drew more than 800 people, applying for Marshall's 80 openings.

David Hawkes with the Porterville Employment Connection said, "We're just excited to have them here this week and we're excited that 80 people are going to get a job and it is going to make a difference in their life."

Crews continued to work on the new Marshall's store. Marshalls is one of four new stores opening in a new Porterville shopping center. PetSmart opened last weekend and Rue21 will open Thursday. Famous Footwear will also be opening right next to Marshall's.

"I think it's a great opportunity for Porterville to grow," said Hawkes. "Unemployment has been tough, the economy has been tough and they're adding 150-200 jobs right there."

The openings are great news for South Valley residents who came out to Porterville for a chance at a new job.

Marshalls will be opening in March. Interviews will be continuing on through Friday morning.

City councilmembers also approved plans for a new Walmart which is also expected to bring 100s of jobs to the city.
