Accused Livingstone's arsonist on trial in Kings County for beating grandmother

Cameras were not allowed inside the Kings County Courthouse for the second and final day of Justin Silva's trial.

The Kings County District Attorney's office has charged Silva with multiple felony charges, including burglary, kidnapping, and attempted murder.

The charges relate to a January 2017 incident at his grandmother's house near Lemoore.

Silva allegedly beat his grandma while attempting to take her property and load it into a U-Haul. Silva claimed the items, including a sewing machine, framed photos, and a radio, were his.

Silva had been out of jail on bail at the time of the crimes, after being arrested weeks earlier for starting a fire that caused major damage to Livingstone's Restaurant in the Tower District.

While en route to jail in Kings County, Silva allegedly told deputies that he was going to trial for setting fires in Fresno.

A deputy also testified that Silva also spoke to him about investing in camel milk, and said, "You scratch my back and I'll scratch yours."

Friends of Silva have said that he had a brain tumor, and started acting strangely after surgery.

The Kings County District Attorney's Office says there will also be a sanity phase to the trial.

The jury will return Wednesday morning to receive their instructions, and then deliberate.

If Silva is convicted of the Kings County case and receives a prison sentence, the Fresno County DA's Office says he will be brought there for the arson case first.
