100 trees planted at Woodward Park's Art of Life Healing Garden

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Men, women and children began pounding 100 trees into the ground at Woodward Park at the crack of dawn Saturday morning.

Members of the East Fresno Kiwanis Club and their families and friends planted the trees at the Art of Life Healing Garden, which is set to open at the end of September. The 100 trees were to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the East Fresno Kiwanis Club.

When complete, the Art of Life Healing Garden will have walkways, benches and playscapes for children to enjoy.

"We're very excited about this park because it's not a park for just cancer patients, but it's a park for anybody going through difficult times in their life, a respite, a place to come to for peace and reflection," Art of Life founder Dr. Christopher Perkins said.

At the same time these workers were planting trees, cancer survivors were creating art for the healing garden -- ceramic stepping stones that will become a permanent addition to the three-acre garden.
