CCSPCA among shelters competing in Rachael Ray $100K Challenge

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The Central California SPCA is hoping to save a record number of animals through the summer with your help.

The shelter held an adoption fair at Woodward Park on Saturday to give dogs and cats a forever home. It's one of 50 ASPCA locations across the country competing in the Rachael Ray $100K Challenge. The shelter that can adopt out the most animals in a three-month period will receive $100,000. That includes dogs, cats, horses and any other pets.

So far, the Central California location is in the top 12 after finding new homes for more than 1,000 animals.

"We think we have a really good chance. We've done a lot of adoptions quite quickly and it seems like the community has been very much on board with saving lives," said Thalia Arenas with the CCSPCA. "So the way we like to tell them is you're not just saving the life of the animal you're adopting, but you're making space at the shelter for another life that's coming in."

Adoption fees are currently only $28.80 because the shelter is aiming to adopt out 2,880 pets during the challenge.
