Chlorophyll Water
If you need a refresher, chlorophyll is the pigment in green plants that helps them grow.

The green, healthy looking concoction inside a pitcher keeps customers like Angela Kote coming back to one restaurant all thirsty for chlorophyll water.

"I'm not the healthiest eater, so for me, anytime that I can kind of get something into my diet that I like the taste of it's always a great thing."

Restaurant owner Matt Levine takes cucumber, mint, and water-- mixes it together, then adds a hit of liquid chlorophyll.

"Customers are actually now, requesting it, or, you know, the word and buzz is getting out."

If you need a refresher, chlorophyll is the pigment in green plants that helps them grow. And now you can buy chlorophyll water in a bottle or add liquid chlorophyll to make your own drinks like in the restaurant. There are even chlorophyll supplements.

So, why the rush to guzzle green?

"Scientists have looked at the benefits of chlorophyll for over 50 years. They have found it to be safe and they found that chlorophyll actually has a lot of benefits to humans," said Sonya Angelone, Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Registered nutritionists said chlorophyll can help with wound healing and skin health-- research also shows it may be a potent cancer fighter

"What chlorophyll does is it can bind with cancer causing chemicals and it can interfere with their absorption in the gastrointestinal track so then they're not able to get into the blood stream and travel to different organs and tissues," said Angelone.

Health experts said you can get chlorophyll in your diet just by eating five to seven servings of vegetables a day. But, if eating all your veggies is just not appetizing--

"I think that, you know, there are no downsides really other than the cost of taking chlorophyll supplements," said Angelone.

Angela now also takes chlorophyll supplements.

"Just knowing that it does have a lot of antioxidants, it's good for my health, it makes me feel good."

Always talk to your doctor before adding any kind of new supplement to your diet.
