Evacuation warnings, orders lifted for French Fire in Mariposa County

Containment on French Fire in Mariposa County jumps to 35%

MARIPOSA COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- Crews are working to contain the French Fire that is burning in Mariposa County.

The flames broke out around 6 pm on Thursday, July 4, in the area of Highway 49 and French Camp Road.

As of Sunday, the fire has scorched over 900 acres and is 60% contained.

The Madera County Sheriff's Office has lifted all evacuation warnings and orders in residential areas.

Popular Yosemite entrance reopens as containment on French Fire grows

A popular highway into Yosemite National Park is no longer impacted by an ongoing wildfire in Mariposa County.

Highway 140 between Martin and Whitlock roads was closed Thursday night due to the ongoing French Fire.

As of Friday afternoon, it has since reopened with traffic control from Old Highway North to Grojean Road.
